On Aug 16, 2006 the Kootenay-Rockies Model Engineer's Club met in the Garry Anderson room of the Prestige Inn from 6:00 - 8:00 pm. There were 14 tentative
members present, with 9 or 10 no-shows.
Scott Bishop was asked to be President and he accepted the position.
Garry Anderson of the Canadian Museum of Rail Travel and Howie Mason of Mason's Trains were asked to act as advisers for the club.
Jenn Waldie of Shaw Cable was there to record the event on TV and has agreed to film all our events.
Payment of dues was discussed and agreed upon at $50.00 / year for single and $100.00 / year for family.
The Steamer, CPR model #2803, will be the feature train for the scheduled train runs with the purchase of a Mountain Car Dash 9 considered as a main engine.
The Track Engineering Plan was presented, which was done by the engineering firm of Armstrong & Nelson of Cranbrook, which met with approval and will be
approximately 4 miles in length with lots of interesting features. It is to be installed in five phases, with the first phase to be installed before winter, 2006.
Insurance quotes were received by Howie with the first quote of $6,500.00 / year for 2 million liability, more quotes are being researched.
Safety, training, and testing was discussed and will be a part of ongoing club activities.
Training seminars are to be implemented with the proceeds to the club.
Annual gas engine show was discussed and considered for future plans.
The relationship between the Club, Mason's Trains, the Museum, and the City was explained and discussed.
The meeting was open for comments and suggestions.
Funding for rail installation will be coming in the near future.
The next meeting is set for September 20, 2006 in the same room at 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm.
Meeting adjourned at 8:15 pm.
